TRAINING FOR
TEACHERS
FIDGETY BOYS
Activities for Improving Behavior and
Learning in School
Specific
learning activities can help teachers
transform any rambunctious boy into a
gentleman and a scholar. Understanding the
boy brain enables teachers to apply the most
effective strategies for managing boys so
that problem behaviors do not impede
academic achievement and jeopardize safe and
positive environments. Teachers who
are cognizant of the learning style of boys
can leverage that knowledge to boost test
scores and make AYP by applying it across
all four subgroups, which are defined by
race/ethnicity, income, disability, or
English-speaking ability.
In this
training, teachers
will learn how to apply practical concepts
in the classroom via specific learning
activities that improve student behavior and
learning. They will become familiar with
boy-friendly instructional strategies that
help to transform the disengaged student
into the engaged student. Of particular
interest will be discussion of how brain
research, when combined with research from
other fields—education, gender differences,
psychology, and sociology—can effectively
inform gender-based instructional strategies
that improve behavior and learning in
school.
